“The partnerships directors schedule monthly skype calls with SAW and educate chapter members about SAW and the Thai/Burma Border”
Ellena deeply cares about the intersectionality of social justice and health equity. She is passionate about advocating for survivors of violence and discrimination. She exemplifies this through her work creating a media & communications internship at Josephine’s Clinic for survivors of violence & sex trafficking, and with her capstone project work with UC’s Opioid Task Force. Her first introduction to health equity and sustainable partnership was through our chapter’s discussion about the plight of Burmese women and children who are provided with health education via our Community Health Outreach Program, and taking PD1000 (s/o @RobinSelzer!). Ellena was a member of the 2019 GROW team where she enjoyed helping SAW students practice English. Not only is she mindful, Ellena also dabbles in the art of makeup in a way that defies systemic barriers on women. (if you want to be a glazed donut, you can be a glazed donut!) “My experience with GlobeMed shaped me into the advocate I am today!” |
“We organize biweekly chapter meetings to learn about our partner, organize Skype calls with ATL and SAW contacts. Our biggest goal is to share the work of SAW with the rest of chapter to enable a greater understanding of our partnership.”
Molly looks forward to investing in the longevity of the organization in a way that enables new members to draw upon their passion while cultivating an understanding of the importance of the work our chapter and partner achieve. She looks forward to sharing the stories and experiences that make Globemed such an effective organization and hopes to see how our chapter continues to grow in the future. Molly is passionate about access to care and education, learning about other people, sharing stories, and ultimate frisbee. “I don't want stories or experiences or the work of GlobeMed and the work of SAW to be lost over time but to be something that can be passed on and grow in the future” |
“Being a part of the past benefit dinner team gave me the opportunity to dive into Globemed”
Shivani is an extra special member of the benefit dinner team because she is leading the two co-chairs—recognizing the value of her expertise and experience to coordinate this massive event. She looks forward to a smooth execution of the event through delegation and planning. She is passionate about minority health and education so families are able to live fulfilling lives through empowering knowledge. Aside from being a benefit dinner star, Shivani is heavily involved with Queen City Bhangra, Bearcat Bhangra, RISE Coalition (social justice for acid violence victims all over the world), and serves as the president of Health Occupations Students of America. |
“I would like for this year's benefit dinner to bring a stronger focus to narrative storytelling in regards to our students and our development as prospective global health leaders”
Harnoor is looking forward to creating a narrative with snippets of videos showing—rather than telling—how we have grown through our participation in chapter for an increased response at benefit dinner. She wants narrative storytelling to extend to the individuals our GrOW team because they’ve formed personal connections with the people of SAW. She is passionate about special education inclusion and awareness through avenues of classroom and policy. She puts emphasis on inclusion which differs from "complete mainstream integration" because every person with special needs is different and requires custom attention to allow their skills to shine. Harnoor is a member of UC’s student senate, motivated to pass bills to de-stigmatize UC students who are on the autism spectrum or who possess other disabilities. Furthermore, Harnoor is involved with Student Activities Board, TEDx, The News Record and Bearcat Buddies. “I have found so many amazing resources and mentors who have spent their lives working in the special education field at UC and know I will continue to learn and grow from them” |
As co-chair of benefit dinner, Anish looks forward to incorporating new perspectives from non premed majors who can contribute their talent and support to GlobeMed’s causes.
He is extremely passionate about becoming more aware of the disparities in healthcare systems between developed and developing nations. Last year, he presented on food insecurity as part of Internal ghU. Outside of GlobeMed and the classroom, he loves playing basketball with friends! One day, he hopes to make a mixtape or produce someone's mixtape. You can catch him listening to Migos, Wu Tang Clan, or OutKast! |
Maria Bobroski-Artola looks forward to organizing fundraisers through an increased collaboration with other student organizations to get more students involved with benefit dinner. She hopes to raise 15K this year and have a student centered formal similar to benefit dinner. She believes healthcare is a human right and is super passionate about immigrant rights and access to healthcare. By implementing positive change for the planet and for human rights, she believes she can empower those around her to do the same. Her favorite memories of Globemed are from Summit 2019, and volunteering at Gabriel’s place on a snow day with other GlobeMedders. Aside from GlobeMed, she is a volunteer coordinator for Latinos En Acción, a Residential Advisor, and a regular Latin dancer—her hips don’t lie! The cherry on top? She is a dang good rollerblader!

Yara Alfawares is one of our Co-Director of Campaigns! She is ready to “get the bread.” Campaigns have ambitious goals for the coming year, hoping to raise the majority of the fundraising goal before the start of the spring semester! Yara is passionate about access to education, children with special needs, domestic violence and human trafficking. One of her favorite GlobeMed memories was from Summit 2019 where she loved learning about what she can do for her community, standing up for what she believes in and being surrounded by like minded people. In her free time, she is hoping to start a soap-making business.

Our Globemed grad student is here to help coordinate fundraising efforts the biggest campaign of the year: Individual Giving. Her valuable experience from conducting campaigns last year will greatly benefit our two co-directors of campaigns this year. As she starts graduate school, she is looking forward to helping out behind the scenes and creating more organization of the position with documents, processes, and practices of years past. She hopes to write a book about the research she does as a medical sociology professor one day.

“I think we all have a duty to help those in our community as much as we can, because that's how our community thrives. Education is the first and most important step.”
As one of the directors of the external ghU committee, Sanjeeth (aka Sunny) is excited to bring awareness to social justice topics through outreach projects! In the past, some of his favorite examples include: Pin the Condom on the Bearcat for World HIV/AIDS Awareness Day and the Community Health Speaker Series. He wants to have more collaboration and communication between GlobeMed and other organizations. For Sunny, this means working with organizations we've worked with before more frequently and working with institutions outside of UC to create a positive impact in the Cincinnati community. He is passionate about education equality and believes that a better education leads to a better life—it is a root determinant of socioeconomic equity. Sunny is a member of the Program and Activities Council, Bearcat Buddies, Print/Zine Association and a student researcher for an immunology lab! Aside from his extracurriculars, Sunny claims to have extreme Mario Kart skills and relatively lackluster real world driving prowess. “We want to bring inspiring and intersectional social justice and public health events to Cincinnati to get you guys excited!!” |
As co-director of our external ghU, Ajit looks forward to organizing events on campus to raise awareness about our chapter’s goals and public health. He aims to increase retention of new members and use outreach events to effectively recruit and help educate as many people on campus on the issues GlobeMed rallies around, such as equitable access to basic health resources. One of Ajit’s favorite aspects of GlobeMed is the family atmosphere—everyone on our eboard has some special connection to each other, and the external committee feels a little extra special this coming year because he gets to perform the job with one of his best friends, Sunny “A$AP” Rajaram. In his free time, he’s doing research on mutations in cystic fibrosis, watches TED talks, plays tennis and tweets way too much in hopes to become Twitter famous!
Some of Ajit’s favorite ‘GlobMob’ memories come from summit, where members from many different GlobeMed chapters meet in Chicago for a weekend of reflection, education, and fun. “We gain a lot of insight on the different approaches all the different partners take and how each chapter interacts with them, and I felt like all of us came back even more woke.” |
